Finding time to do what you love

The world is full of distraction, some welcomed and some not so welcomed.  It's hard, especially for an Artist who is also a Mother or Father, to find the time to be creative and to allow yourself the opportunity to do what you love.  Stress, the daily grind, worry, commitments to others, unavoidable circumstance and delay...we could all go on and on.

So how does an Artist find the time to do what they love?  Get better at their skill or craft?  Or simply relax to allow the creative juices flow?

Although the answer may not sound so"profound" it does involve a very basic mindset, to just say to yourself, "OK, there are 7 days in a week, 24 hours in a day and some of that time is mine".  Then tell your loved ones what that time is and MAKE IT HAPPEN for yourself.

Be balanced, don't have an "all or nothing" attitude.  Do what you can, when you can, and instead of focusing on "I wish I had more time" rather focus on "I have all the time I need".  Say it and mean it, accept it as truth, to yourself, everyday, and you will see that you can not only create "art" but also the fundamental needs that are required to lead a fulfilling life.

If we deny ourselves this, we eventually become bitter, loose our passion for what we love and end up with regret.

Don't riddle yourself with guilt, don't formulate excuses as to why you should "skip" today because that will eventually become habit forming.  Why do most people often find excuses as to why they can't do what they love?  We are programed to think this is the way life must be.  A daily, non stop curse of responsibility and commitments to everything and everyone but ourselves.  But what about that commitment to ourselves?  Does it exist?  Have you made one?  If no, why not?

Artists are some of the richest people on earth.  Perhaps not always financially, but in a way that is even more abundant.  We have a gift, to visualize and manifest through our own conscious and subconscious minds.  This form of release is therapeutic, spiritual and enlightening.  And the amazing thing is that not only does it do good for us, it helps create the world around us.  Artists of all types whether you are a sculptor, painter, sidewalk chalk drawer, musician or cake decorator...what you give is inspiration, hope, enjoyment, peace, love, imagination, release and messages from deep within your heart to the world.

Would it not be selfish of us to keep our talents locked away simply because we don't afford ourselves the opportunity?  Finding time is not as hard as you may think.  Rearrange your schedule, you DO have control no matter what you may have been pressured into thinking or believing.

Don't envy others for doing what you wish you could do, no one's life is the same as another.  We each have our own obstacles.  But what is the same is the way in which we can manage it, by focusing on the positive instead of the negative, by allowing ourselves what we "think" isn't possible, and by doing instead of wishing.

All true artists, whether they know it or not, create from a place of no-mind, from inner stillness.
  Eckhart Tolle

I dream a lot. I do more painting when I'm not painting. It's in the subconscious.
  Andrew Wyeth

Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we're being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I'm liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That's what's insane about it.
John Lennon

O great creator of being grant us one more hour to perform our art and perfect our lives.
  Jim Morrison
The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection.
  Michelangelo

Painting is so poetic, while sculpture is more logical and scientific and makes you worry about gravity.
  Damien Hirst
